Make a Pumpkin Bauble

Part of Maths on Toast’s ‘Stay-in sessions’, a series of creative family maths sessions delivered online September – December 2020.

This October, we’re showing you how to make a pumpkin shaped bauble to decorate your homes this autumn. 🎃

Design, create and display your unique pumpkins in your windows at home to display for neighbours, friends and passers-by to see and enjoy! Why not make a shared community creation? Encourage your school and your neighbours to make one and create a display along a whole street!

With this activity you will be:

  • Exploring spatial maths
  • Discovering how flat 2D circles can become 3D spheres
  • Using doubling and the 2 times table to fold paper to create circles
  • Using construction skills to fit shapes together

Share your pumpkin pics!
Take a photo and email it to info@mathsontoast.org.uk or share it on social media tagging @mathsontoast using the hashtags #pumpkinbauble and #positiveaboutmaths

Materials you will need

Orange paper or white paper & orange pencils/felt tip pens
Pencil
Compass or something circular to draw around
Scissors
Glue
String, ribbon or thread
