The theme for International Women’s Day this year is #EmbraceEquality, which we fully support here at Maths on Toast!
To celebrate, we spoke to two of our trustees, to get their view on equality in their workplace. This is what they had to say:
Krystle McGilvery
“Being a woman, who works with maths, finance, and science, I feel liberated about the contribution I do and will continue to make to the world. I am constantly encouraging other women to push boundaries, and do what they truly desire, ignoring what others say they can’t do, in both their personal and professional lives”
Krystle is a trustee at Maths on Toast. After over 10 years as CIMA chartered accounted, she founded Mind Over Money and currently works as a financial consultant combining behavioural science and finance to support individuals and founders gain financial confidence.
Karrie Liu
“People always says that ‘Karrie is good at math because she is Chinese’, or ‘For a girl, Karrie is good at maths’. Sometimes I just want to shout out “I am good at maths because I spend time to study and not because of my ethnicity or my gender.” I hope that one day people can just see me for who I am.”
Karrie Liu is a trustee at Maths on Toast. She is the founder of Hypatia Analytics Ltd and a mathematician with 10+ years of experience in UK healthcare and life sciences. She believes data and mathematics are at the heart of better decision-making and it is important to apply these insights into their planning.
